A Prayer for My Marriage

Nobody's wedding photos include the silent breakfasts. If your marriage is strained, distant, or hanging by a thread, this prayer is for you — and it's been prayed by more people than you'd guess.

Lord, our marriage is tired. Soften both of us — me first. Give us one honest, gentle conversation, and the courage to have the next one. Rebuild what we've let wear down. Amen.

A fuller prayer

Father, You were there the day we made these vows, and You're here now that keeping them is hard. I bring You the distance between us — the conversations we avoid, the scorekeeping, the tiredness. Start with my own heart: show me my part before You show me theirs. Give us back small kindnesses first, then honest words, then, in Your time, the warmth we started with. Protect us from the counsel of people who'd rather see this end. If we need help, make us humble enough to ask for it. You are the God who restores; restore us. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Scripture to hold on to

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

ECCLESIASTES 4:12 · BSB

Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

COLOSSIANS 3:13 · BSB

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

How to pray this

Pray for your spouse by name daily, even — especially — on the days you don't feel like it. And pray for yourself honestly; 'change them' prayers go further when they begin 'change me.' If there is harm or fear in your home, prayer belongs alongside real help, not instead of it — see our crisis resources.

Don’t carry this alone

The chain is small and forming — which means your request won't be lost in a crowd. Real people will pray this with you, for your situation, by name — and you’ll see each one happen.

Ask the chain to pray with you

Or join free and pray for others — praying earns prayers.

Common questions

Can prayer really save a marriage?

Prayer changes the people in the marriage, and changed people make different marriages. Couples who pray together consistently report striking resilience — but prayer also works alongside counseling, honesty, and time, not as their replacement.

Should I tell my spouse I'm praying for us?

If it would land as love, yes. If it would land as a weapon ('I'm praying you'll finally change'), pray quietly and let the change in you speak first.

What if only one of us is trying?

One softened heart changes the weather in a home. Pray as the one; invite God to work on the other; get wise support around you.
